Sun -and- Moon

My other project for second quarter in Honors Art. It's an Acrylic on a 16" tondo. Again, it was from my school's art website, so the file is quite small.

The yin yang has always fit these two, in a variety of ways.

This thing has more symbolism than I ever put into a piece. I'll list it all out at the end.

The only thing that was kind of random is the strawberries. I knew I wanted butterflies on Rukia's side, but for the life of me, I could not find an appropriate symbol for Ichigo. Sooo... I just went for his name's meaning and put strawberries for his space-filler.

I like how this came out overall, but I got pretty frustrated with the skin and the construction of their faces. XD

At least I like how the hair came out... Ichigo's especially. It's usually a little annoying coloring his hair on the computer, but damn, I loved painting it! So much easier and fun. XD

Anyway, symbols:

*Ichigo is in the yang, which means masculinity and earth.
*Rukia is in the yin, which means femininity and sky.
*Ichigo is referred to as the "Black Sun" on the SOULs cover.
*Rukia is referred to as the "White Moon" on the VIBEs cover.
*The red circulating them represents their connection through their death god powers, as shinigami's spirit ribbons are red. (This could also tie into the "red string of fate" belief)
*Strawberries are there, like I said, because of Ichigo's name.
*Butterflies are there because they sort of got associated with Rukia after the first episode.

Yeah I think that's it. XD
